Phil Berry

Phil Berry was trained at The Climate Project in Nashville in April of 2007 at Session 6.  Most of his TCP presentations have been in Asia.  Since 2007, Phil has run Sustainable Product Works. SPW helps clients build economic value in their businesses by reducing environmental and social impact.

From 1996 through 2007, Phil was Nike’s Director of Footwear Sustainability. In 2006, Business Ethics Magazine named the environmental program Phil helped develop at Nike: “the best corporate environmental program in the U.S.” In 2005, Phil was part of the team that developed Nike’s first product to be marketed as “more sustainable.” Nike’s “Considered Boot” earned the prestigious Gold IDEA award from Industrial Design Society of America.

Prior to Nike, Phil worked for more than 17 years in a variety of roles managing environmental programs and issues: consultant to business and government on issues of business efficiency and environmental impact in China, Thailand and India, teaching resource efficient manufacturing to Oregon businesses for Oregon DEQ, the state environmental regulatory agency, and developing and implementing environmental programs for private sector employers in electronics, aerospace and chemical coatings. 

Phil has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science from Portland State University. Phil lives with his wife, Joanna, their youngest daughter and three dogs in the rural Willamette Valley south of Portland, Oregon.  They have a grown son attending community college in Portland and a daughter who recently graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle.

The Climate Project is Al Gore's climate change leadership program and is a part of the Alliance for Climate Protection, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. TCP's mission is to educate the public about the harmful effects of climate change and to work toward solutions at a grassroots level worldwide. TCP supports more than 3,500 diverse and dedicated volunteers worldwide. TCP Presenters have delivered 70,000 presentations and have reached a combined global audience of 7.3 million people.
